A pin-up girl is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as popular culture. The name comes from people "pinning" the photos to their walls. Pin-up girls have a long history starting in the late 19th century. G.I.s during World War II use to hang these pictures in their locker rooms, and paint pictures of them on their bombers for luck. These images reminded our fighting men of home and kept their spirits high. Many women have popularized the Pin-up such as Betty Grable in the 1940's and Bettie Page in the 1950's. Today, the Pin-up has made a strong comeback. Many people have turned to the retro look and have turned to vintage celebrities for inspiration. The Rockabilly/Psychobilly and Hot Rod cultures in particular take great influences from both retro and modern pin-ups. You might see a lot of today's modern Pin-up girls having traces of burlesque, punk, or tattoos, and having them put their own modern rebel twist to it. A Pin-up girl celebrates her femininity, individualism, and female empowerment. I now present you my 13 favorite Pin-up Models.
