13 HOTTEST BABES OF THE 1980s

Phoebe Cates

13. Debbie Harry

Why She's Hot: She was the front woman for the band Blondie, how could I not put this Punk Rocker on this list.  Her Punk style and her new wave/Punk sound inspired countless bands to come.

12. Lisa Bonet

Why She's Hot: She was the Cosby kid with attitude.  Best known for her role as Denise in The Cosby Show, she was one of the main reasons I watched that show as a kid.  She had so much sass.

11. Kathy Ireland

Why She's Hot: Starting in 1984, she appeared in 13 consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues.  In 1989 she appeared on the 25th Anniversary Swimsuit edition, which became Sports Illustrated best selling swimsuit issue to date.

10. Demi Moore

Why She's Hot: Demi Moore was at her hottest in the 80's no questions asked.  Before her acting career, she modeled nude for Oui magazine in 1980.  She then went on to star in Blame it on Rio (1984), St. Elmo's Fire (1985), and the movie that established her a star, About Last Night (1986).

9. Jennifer Jason Leigh
Why She's Hot: Best well known for starring in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High, film critic Roger Ebert recognized her in his review and said, "Don't they know they have a star on their hands?" He was right, Leigh went on to become a successful and recognizable actress well into the 90's.

8. Farrah Fawcett

Already an icon from Charlie's Angels (1976-1980), Farrah Fawcett was the pinup girl in every guys bedroom in the late 70's and early 80's.  In 1981 she starred in the hit comedy film Cannonball Run.  She won critical acclaim for her dramatic role in 1983 for the controversial play Extremities.  The following year she earned her first of her four Emmy Award nominations for The Burning Bed.

7. Sharon Stone

Why She's Hot: Starting her career as an actress in 1980, and starring in films such as Irreconcilable Differences, King Solomon's Mines, and Above the Law, this blond bombshell babe gained mainstream success in 1990's Total Recall. This babe will certainty be in the "Hottest 90's List" as well.

6. Michelle Pfeiffer

Why She's Hot: Having a breakout role in 1983 in the film Scarface as Al Pacino's smokin hot trampy wife.  She continued her success in the early 90's playing a very memorable Catwoman, but we'll save that for the next list.

5. Brooke Shields

Why She's Hot: A model and an actress, she grabbed the whole world attention by acting in 1980's The Blue Lagoon, and soon became a household name.  A fashion icon for many teen girls, and a pinup girl for teenage boys, Brooke Shields was the all American girl.

4. Jennifer Beals
Why She's Hot: In 1983, she starred in Flashdance, where she plays a welder by day, and a stripper by night.  Whether it was the scene where she doused herself in water at the strip club, or trying out to be a ballerina, she was the small town girl we all loved.

3. Cindy Crawford

Why She's Hot: Many consider her to be the worlds first supermodel.  Her success as a supermodel landed her many roles in television and film. Being on countless magazine covers, this sizzlin babe made her debut in Playboy in 1988.

2. Phoebe Cates
Why She's Hot: She is perhaps the biggest heartthrob of the 80's.  Starring in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High, she did the most iconic nude scene of the decade.  From then on, she was in every teenage boys dreams.

1. Christie Brinkley

Why She's Hot: She gained worldwide fame beginning in the late 1970's with three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers through 1981.  She spent 25 years as the face of CoverGirl, and has appeared on over 500 magazine covers.  Many of you might remember her from the 1983 film Vacation, as she tried to seduce Chevy Chase by stripping down naked by the poolside.

Religion Made My Life Hell But Punk Saved Me

Prologue
Almost all of us have been there. A series of events that happened in our youth that still trigger thoughts of frustration and anger. For me, its religion. Before I get started, I want you, the reader to know that this is not an attempt to bring anyone's personal beliefs down. This is just my personal story. It's taking me a lot of guts to share this with you, but I want to. I think it will be good for me, as well as possible help out any other person that shared similar experiences.

I. Childhood Innocence
I was born into a normal Catholic family. I went to a Catholic grade school, attended weekly Mass with my family, and loved my free time. Everyday was an adventure, whether it was playing Army Men in the backyard or building forts in the house. I was carefree and life was good. I never questioned my religion nor did I ever care about it. We had daily religion classes in elementary school, and they would teach us about Jesus and Heaven but it never mean't anything to me. I just found it boring and inapplicable to my life.

 II. Boy Scouts and Punk
My junior high days consisted of my two biggest passions at that time; Boy Scouting and Punk music. I had joined Scouts in First Grade and loved every minute of it. Boy Scouting was a great root foundation for me. I was learning the three core values: citizenship, character, and personal fitness; as well as making friendships and going on outdoor adventure trips. At that very same time I was really into Punk. I know what you're thinking, and I'm going to stop you right there. Punk was not an attempt to rebel against my parents nor authority. At that point in time, I loved the artistic value of it. I loved the raw aggression, real life feelings of other people I could relate to, and the style. Starting at the age of 11, I started buying Punk CDs, playing the genre on the drums, and rocking out to the music in my bedroom.

III. Why?
By the time seventh grade came around, fighting with my parents every Sunday was relentless.  At the age of 13 I didn't believe or disbelieve in any god nor did I care about religion as a whole. I dreaded every Sunday and told my parents I didn't want to go (though I never told them I didn't believe or disbelieve). Every Sunday the car ride was the worst. Yelling and screaming by both my parents and I was the norm, and then all of a sudden right when we got out of the car and entered the church, my parents acted as if nothing was wrong. But literally 5 minutes before, I was shedding tears.

Growing up is tough for everyone. Whenever I needed alone time due to xyz, I rocked out in my bedroom or watched movies. I love the escapism and was always able to relate it to something in my life. I remember very vividly when my parents would go through my CDs and they would look up the lyrics. If there was a single cuss word in the album, my Dad threw away that album. I remember feeling very angry. Those albums meant a lot to me, and had helped me through some rough times.   My parents would also use a Catholic Bishop movie review site to see if the the PG-13 movie I was going to see was appropriate. Most of the movies I wanted to see had substance to it. It was about real life stuff and relateble characters. Most of the time, the Catholic Bishops deemed those films inappropriate for Catholic audiences, so my parents didn't let me go see them.

IV. Depression
In eighth grade I was severely depressed. I was graduating from the grade school and my parents were forcing me to go to a Catholic all boys high school. Religion had no meaning in my life, and yet it was going to dictate where I was going to spend the next 4 years of my life. I wanted so badly to go to our towns public high school. My parents had this mentality that public schools are for "other people". They told me that as long as I lived under their roof I was going to a Catholic school. I cried, pleaded, and begged that it wasn't for me. They didn't understand that Catholic schools are for preppy kids, and not Punk kids like myself. They didn't understand that kids like me would get made fun of and beat up. They still didn't care. I was going regardless.

I was contemplating suicide. I didn't see any other out. I called a good friend of mine and told him. Like any concerned friend, he told his mom, and his mom called my school. The next day, I got pulled out of school and my parents picked me up. Much to my surprise, my parents were angry at me. They kept saying I was sick and I wasn't thinking right. I cried and said "Why can't you just let me be me!? I'm not a Catholic Preppy boy. Why are you forcing me to go somewhere I don't belong!?" Their bull shit response remained the same that as long as I'm living under their roof, I go to a Catholic school. Period. My parents treated the situation extremely cold hearted. I wasn't treated like a son who needed help. They left me to fend for myself, depression and all.

V. I Told You So!
I was the only Punk in my school. I wore studded belts and bracelets with my uniform, had swoopy bangs or spikey Punk hair. It's expected to get made fun of when you choose to express yourself differently than your peers. Well sophomore year it finally happened, I got beat up by a prep. I came home with a huge bruise on my neck, and told my parents that I don't care what you say anymore. I'll hitchhike to the public school if I have to, but I'm not stepping into the Catholic school for as long as I live. They reluctantly said okay....It only took me getting my ass kicked for them to budge...

VI. Sleeping in Church Parking Lots
At the age of 18, I had graduated high school and started community college. I went to Hardcore shows on a monthly basis. I loved it. Any bullshit that was in my life was gone. Ironically, I felt peace when I was in the mosh pit. I was part of a community that cared for each other and literally picked each other up when we fell down. It was a brotherhood that was really only understood if you were a part of it.

I was working part time at the local pizza place. I opened the store on Sunday mornings. My parents knew that I didn't believe in a god nor cared about religion. They didn't accept it nor me. Every Sunday was a screaming battle at 7:00 in the morning. They would force me to go to early morning Mass. My Dad would stand at my bed and scream at me until I got out of bed. They would would scream until they saw me leave the driveway. Every Sunday morning I would park my truck in the church parking lot and sleep in my truck. I refused to go inside that place. I had no reason to. This happened until the age of 21 when I left to go to a college university.

VII. Present & Epilogue
I'm about to graduate from college, and my views about religion are still the same. I'm an Apatheist, which basically means I don't care about religion or a god. I've always been an Apatheist ever since I was a child. I find my inner strength in my music, and always have. When I come home from college, my parents occasionally give me a hard time about not going to church with them. I know that I'm a good dude with good values. I don't need to worry about debates on whether a god exists or not, because I just don't care. I don't need to go to a confession to ask for forgiveness because I rather just go ask forgiveness from the person that I might have hurt. I don't need to stress out about heaven or hell. I just don't care. I'm going to keep trying my best. The best son, best boyfriend, best friend, best student, and best Horror lovin Punk rocker I can be.

13 HOTTEST CHICKS IN PUNK & METAL!

Kenda "Twisted" Legaspi - The Creepshow

Kenda recently joined Psychobilly band, "The Creepshow" after Sarah "Sin" Blackwood's departure. Kenda, now fronting the band, has proven herself worthy with her energetic stage performances and melodic vocals.

Alexis Brown - Straight Line Stitch

Alexis has some major talent. Being the front woman for Metalcore band "Straight Line Stitch" she can melodically sing a clean chorus and then deliver bone crushing screams during a breakdown. Always asking for more moshing and crowd participation, Alexis always gives the crowd what they want to hear.

Krista Kat - The Silver Shine

Playing the double bass and sharing vocal duties with guitarist Ati EDGE, makes this Hungarian Pyschobilly outfit so unique. Krista plays the upright bass like a machine gun setting the tempo for massive circle pits. Krista also complements the bands style for catchy crowd sing a longs such as "Angels to Some".

Shakey Sue - The Hellfreaks

Part pin-up model part vocalist. Shakey Sue leads a wrecking pit Psychobilly band hailing from Hungary. As soon as you hear her unique vocals, you will soon find out why she calls herself Shakey Sue.

Taylor Momsen - The Pretty Reckless

Cindy Lou Who? That's right, this "reckless" chick is none other than the little girl who played Cindy Lou in "The Grinch" (2000). Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Taylor plays the bad girl role on stage with her Rock band, "The Pretty Reckless".

Lzzy Hale - Halstorm

Playing and headlining Hard Rock festivals all over, "Halestorm" has the whole world's attention.  Lzzy has been said to be the Joan Jett of our generation, and for good reason.  Lzzy has proved that female fronted Hard Rock bands can rock just has hard as the guys.

Alecia "Mixi" Demner - Stiched Up Heart

An up and coming Alternative Metal/Hard Rock band, Mixi's passion for music is present every time she gets on stage.  Always wanting to share the microphone with her fans during sing a longs, Mixi's Punk Rock ethos is wining fans all over the US.

Kitty Casket - Kitty in a Casket

An Austrian Pyschobilly band that combines Pop Punk with a nice Horror Punk blend.  Kitty's poppy vocals and spooky lyrics make this a fun Halloween themed band.  If you are singing along with them and its July, Kitty in a Casket has done their job.

Lux - Nekromantix

Becoming the new drummer in the already legendary Psychobilly band, "The Nekromantix", Lux has gained the entire worlds attention by playing the drums in her heels for every show.  No dude could ever compete with that!

Elize Ryd - Amaranthe

Elize is part of the Swedish/Danish band "Amaranthe", that fuses melodic Metal with Pop melodies.  A completely new take on the genre of Metalcore and with Elize's vocals paving the way.

Alana Potocnik - Winds of Plague

Playing the keyboard/synths for Deathcore outift "Winds of Plague", Alana has a huge following of devoted fans. Playing spooky keys that flow with the music, Alana is one of the only bands in the world to write and play Symphonic Deathcore.

Alexia & Anissa Rodriguez - Eyes Set To Kill

I know I'm breaking my 13 rule here, but I don't know of any two chicks in a band that rock harder than these two...and they're sisters!  With Alexia on vocals and guitar and Anissa on bass, these two make quite an impressionable original sound.  This Post-Hardcore act is extremely aggressive and have very catchy sing a longs.

Ash Costello - New Years Day

"New Years Day" has made huge strides in their career all due to vocalist Ash saying enough is enough.  With Ash being dissatisfied with her labels to be a generic Pop Punk band, she completely changed the bands direction and genre. Now self proclaiming to be "Hauntedmansioncore", the band has a new and original sound.

*Honorable Mentions*
Jahan Yousaf & Yasmine Yousaf - Krewella

I do indeed consider Dubstep to be very alternative.  Along the likes of "Skrillex", "Krewella" adds Pop vocal melodies with electronic Punk and Post-Hardcore styled breakdowns known as bassdrops.  With the two sisters in the group trading off vocal duties, its always guaranteed they will get the crowd moving.

Is Christian Metal Really Metal?

Is Christian Metal Really Metal? This is an interesting question for both Metal and Non-Metal fans alike. The idea of having strong Christian based lyrics in aggressive music might sound foreign to a listener who is unfamiliar with modern Metal. I have seen many Christian Metal/Hardcore bands perform, and I have to be honest, it confuses me every time.

Many modern Metal bands such as The Devil Wears Prada, Sleeping Giant, and August Burns Red, have used their live shows and album sales as preaching grounds.  They'll sing (or scream about) god and talk about their faith on stage. As an active member in the Metal/Hardcore scene, I just end up scratching my head and asking "why?"

I personally view Christianity simply as you are subservient to a master.  Metal is about ones own personal strength. We are not slaves and we are not subservient to anything. We find power in ourselves. Haters gonna hate.

Another head scratching reason why Christian Metal just doesn't make sense is the whole "Moshing for Jesus" thing. I'm talking about when concert goers (yes I am guilty) are Moshing to Christian or worship filled lyrics. Now I have been in many pits, and let me just tell you that when i'm in there swinging violently and pushing other people to the ground, i'm not thinking about anything Christian like.

However, with all this being said, I do support bands who write positive messages in their lyrics.  I think it is great when a musician can sing about the good in people or taking ownership to ones faults. I do believe there is a big difference in worshiping a god in a song and singing about a positive message.

I have been in the scene for 9 years now and have never figured this one out. This is just one Hardcore kids opinion. Haters Gonna Hate.

13 TERRIBLE Final Girls!!!

You know when your watching a Slasher flick, and the main protagonist is so dumb and annoying, you actually want them to die.  Well this boils and ghouls, is the absolute worst of the worst.  A little while back, I wrote a segment on the Final Girls who are so kick ass, they have earned title of a Scream Queen.  To give these ladies that title would give the viewer a false representation of what a true Scream Queen is.  Without further ado, I present the 13 worst Final Girls in Horror cinema.

13. Rooney Mara (Nancy Holbrook) - A Nightmare on Elm Street (Remake)

Believe it or not, this is the same chick from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  Obviously she has talent, but not in this movie.  She's bland and boring.  She doesn't display much emotion and I think I saw her fight back maybe once.  It's a real shame that they didn't use Rooney's co-star, Katie Cassidy to play Nancy.  She was the real talent in this movie.

12. Amanda Righetti (Whitney Miller) - Friday the 13th (Remake)

First off, I absolutely love this movie.  It's graphic and violent and doesn't stray from the source material from the original movies.  None the less, the leading lady sucked.  She gets captured at the beginning of the movie, and doesn't get rescued by her brother until the last 20 minutes.  Yeah she defeats Jason, kind of, but only to ruin the moment by saying one of the most over the top lines I have ever heard in this franchise, "Say hello to mommy, in hell!"  Again, just like in A Nightmare on Elm Street, Amanda's co-star played by Danielle Panabaker (See Top 13 Scream Queens) should have easily been The Final Girl in this movie.

11. Jennifer Carpenter (Angela Vidal) - Quarantine

This movie is scary as hell.  Absolutely frighting images of zombies and great camera work.  But Jennifer was more like a damsel in distress character, than a Final Girl.  Annoying breathing and crying....that was her performance...

10. Alexandra Daddario ( Heather Miller) - Texas Chainsaw 3D

Alexandra was a big miscast.  She should have been playing the slutty friend instead of the lead.  Looking like she just got off the set of an adult film, and her acting to prove it, Alexandra's character made some of the dumbest and I mean DUMBEST decisions.  I feel like I can't give away the ending, but she delivers the absolute worst line in Horror cinema: "Do your thing cuz!"

9. Bianca Kajlich (Sara Moyer) - Halloween: Resurrection

Yes, Halloween: Resurrection had plenty of flaws, but Bianca is without a doubt, the wort actress the Halloween franchise has ever had.  Her screaming is comical, her acting horrid, and she gets rescued by Busta Rhymes.  Yes, Busta Rhymes.  At least we were able to see Jamie Lee Curtis one last time...That kind of made up for this....didn't it....

8. Alicia Witt (Natalie Simon) - Urban Legend

Wait, there was a Final Girl in this movie?  Yes, Alicia Witt is plain, boring, and non-memorable.  She would have been just fine if she was the friend of the Final Girl....who would have gotten killed in the second act.

7. Marilyn Burns (Sally Hardesty) - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

People might say how absolutely terrifying this movie is, and the're right.  This movie gave birth to one of the most sadistic Slashers of all time, Leatherface.  But the problem with this movie is our "heroine".  She can run, i'll give her that much, but she screams, she screams, and then she screams some more.  That's all she freaking does in this movie is scream.  Her screaming is so annoying, you just want her to be killed off so you don't have to hear it anymore.

6. Brittany Snow (Donna Keppel) - Prom Night

Prom Night is a prime example of why Slasher movies should never be PG-13.  Bloodless, not scary, and whiny crying teens.  Brittany's performance is so forgettable.  I think I remember her crying...Oh wait, I remember, she cried, and then she cried some more, and then it ended.  Piece of rubbish film.

5. Bobbi Sue Luther (The Girl) - Laid to Rest

This is what happens when a director puts his talent less wife in a movie... You get Laid to Rest.  Yeah, the gore and special effects are quite good in this Slasher, but it can't save it from the god awful acting of Bobbi Sue Luther.  There is really nothing more to say here other than the fact that it was a complete waste of the special effects guys time.

4. Elizabeth Berridge (Amy Harper) - The Funhouse

I have a special place in my heart for this movie, because it was the first Slasher flick I had ever seen as a little kid.  After re-watching it recently, I had never seen someone so undeserving of The Final Girl role of 80's Slashers.  She literally does noting to defeat the killer; just cries and screams in the corner.  The killer basically kills himself accidentally.  Lame.  Good scares, horrible lead.

3. Shelly Duval (Wendy Torrance) - The Shining

A whiny and completely worthless character.  It's to bad that The Shining is the most mainstream Horror movie on this list.  Completely portrays a Horror heroine falsely to the mainstream public.  Sad face.

2. Monica Keena (Lori Campbell) - Freddy vs Jason

This is a movie where you are saying "Can everyone please just die." Absolutely terrible stereotypical high school characters.  But Monica Keena's the worst.  Her whininess, overacting, and when she screams "Welcome to my world bitch!" you literally bust out laughing.  This is a movie where you could't give a crap about any of the characters, cause let's face it, you're here to watch Freddy and Jason pit it out.

1. Jennifer Love Hewitt (Julie James) - I Know What You Did Last Summer

The whinest and worst of them all, Jennifer Love Hewitt is the WORST Final Girl in movie history.  A completely weak and uninteresting character, it has you scratching your head why?  There is absolutely nothing going on with her.  Completely useless, you start questioning why you started watching Horror movies in the first place.  Don't worry though, if you want to laugh, just wait until she screams "What are you waiting for huh!?" She will have you rolling on the floor with laughter in no time.

What ever the case might be, here are 10 of my favorite tracks for the 2013 Halloween season.  These Halloween songs are sure to wake the dead.

Ghost Town - "You're So Creepy"

A relatively new artist, Ghost Town's "You're So Creepy" blends electronic dance music with spooky pop lyrics.  A dance anthem that will sure to get your monster bash moving.

Stellar Corpses - "Vampire Kiss"

A song about the 80's vampire classic, "The Lost Boys", you cannot go wrong with this song.  A Psychobilly tune with a rock n roll dance vibe.

Figure - Beetlejuice

This great Dubstep adaption of the Beetlejuice theme will have you chanting his name 3 times.  Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice!!!

The Groovie Ghoulies - The Time Warp

A Punk Rock remake of The Time Warp.  With an updated version, your guest won't feel shy about doing the the pelvic thrust.  "Let's do the Time Warp again!"

Michael Jackson - Thriller

An absolute classic, no Halloween party would be complete without The Thriller.  Having Vincent Price cameo in the song only heightens the chill factor.

Misfits - Dig Up Her Bones

Horror Punk at its best, "Dig Up Her Bones" is the perfect song for every Halloween party.  Catchy sing along lyrics and its melodic yet still punk vibe is great.

Cold Blue Rebels - Zombie Love

A Psychobilly song with a Doo-wop vibe.  If your wanting to get close to your zombie sweetheart, this is the perfect song to dance to.

Marilyn Manson - This is Halloween

Manson's take on the Tim Burton classic is absolutely genius.  Creepy and eerie sounding, this track is an absolute must for anyone who grew up in the 90's.

Misfits - Monster Mash

A classic song that we have all grown to love, with a Horror Punk twist.  The Misfits does the song justice.  Your guest are going to want to do the Monster Mash all night long.

deadmau5 - Ghosts N Stuff

An electronic pop song with a great creepy vibe.  A dance anthem your guest will sure to love.
